About Rob Fish
Let's see, this is robfish.com. Care to take a wild guess about
the topic of the page? I'm not gonna go into a lot of detail,
though, 'cause unless you're my mom, this stuff will put you
to sleep faster than slipping an industrial strength dose of
Sominex into your bedtime toddy.
I don't remember the event, but mom says I was born in Plainfield,
New Jersey, USA, in August of 1953. You might consider that to
be long ago and far away. I know that my kids do. Unfortunately,
my "long ago and far away" saga is neither as compelling
nor as profitable as Steven Speilberg's "long ago and far
away" saga. And as much as I hate to admit it, the domain
name "robfish.com" doesn't have quite the same panache
as "starwars.com."
If you'd been spying on me when I was 9 years old, you would
have watched my mom, dad, younger sister and me move to Whitehall,
Ohio (you weren't really spying on me when I was 9, were you?).
Whitehall is a suburb of Columbus, and used to be filled with
people who worked for North American Rockwell or the Federal
Government. Rumor was that our close proximity to North American
Rockwell and the Government's Defense Supply Depot made us target
#8 or so on the Russian nuclear bomb hit list. When they talked
about ducking under your desk and covering your head in the event
of a nuclear attack, we all paid attention. Not as much attention,
though, as when they talked about going to lunch a wee bit early.
I was part of Whitehall Yearling High School's class of '71,
and majored in Music Education at The Ohio State University.
I married Paula Replogle in March of 1974 ( I snuck that "1974"
in there because I always forget which year we married).
Just before we married, Paula was attending Marshall University.
She switched to the Riverside Hospital School of Radiology and
became a Registered X-Ray Technician. I've always claimed that
I'm a LOT smarter than Paula. If you take a look at who
I married and compare it with who Paula married, you'll understand
why.
We have three kids. Well, they were kids. Now they're adults.
Chris was born in 1977, Brian in 1978, and Sarah in 1980. Here's
an old photo of the five of us:

I'm the old guy with too much stomach and not enough hair.
The picture isn't totally accurate - I now have a beard, a moustache,
and a lot more gray. There's a more recent shot of me in a quicktime
movie near the bottom of this page.
Okay...back to the poor man's "This is your life."
After college, I became a store manager at Jay's Beer Drive-In
in Columbus, Ohio (you drive your car into the store, we fill
it up with cases and cases of beer, your pay for the beer and
drive on your way. No points for running over the sales clerk!).
After five years with Jay's, I switched to a different type of
fluid power, and became a sales engineer for Hydraulic &
Air Controls (designing and selling hydraulic power units and
fluid power systems).
Paula was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis sometime around
1984, though she's had symptoms since 1982. Through Chris, we
became very involved with youth soccer. Brian's passion was theater,
and then Sarah took us back to the soccer fields. Hydraulic &
Air Controls was bought by Taylor Newcomb Industries, and I became
the marketing manager for the combined companies.
Because Paula can no longer be left alone for more than a
few hours at a time, we've decided to try and make a go of a
home business (which is what Customized
Creations is all about).
I now work from my home office, spending a big chunk of my day
selling my web site design services, working on the
basic hydraulics class I teach,
selling and making magnetic dry erase
boards, and doing buttons (if you're interested in any of
that stuff, let me know).
It looks like Paula will probably end up in a nursing home
at some point, as her condition continues to deteriorate. Because
of the multiple sclerosis, she can't read, she can't write, she
can't type, she can't stand unassisted, and she can't get out
of the house on her own. Even with all that, her biggest problem
right now (other than being stuck home alone with me) is boredom.
If you know Paula and feel so inclined, call her - I can guarantee
that Paula will be overjoyed to hear from you, and with her great
attitude, you'll have a wonderful chat.
And heck, if you don't know Paula, why not call someone you
do know who is homebound or living alone? I'll bet both you and
the person you call will feel better because of it.
Here's a picture of our "baby," who is a student at the Ohio State
University. I know - she sure didn't get her looks from me.
Come to think of it, Chris and Brian are also better looking
than me. Remind me to post some more recent pictures of them
here, okay?
Our oldest son, Chris is working for the School of Medicine at Ohio State University. He's doing the computer work on some electronic courses they're developing - something to pass the time while he finishes
up college.
Brian recently moved back home from California. Sure is nice to have him back home. He'll be going to OSU next quarter.
Welp, there you go. A lot more than you cared to know about
Rob Fish, eh? But just in case you're a glutton for punishment,
I should let you know that in addition to this page and the Customized
Creations web site, I've got a couple other web sites scattered
here and there on the internet. If you're REALLY bored and have
nothing better to do, please consider this an oFISHal invitation
to visit them.
