About This Page

There are several sites on the internet that helps you find your old high school classmates. Every now and then I go wandering through their lists of registered alumni, looking for names of friends from other schools. Most of the people I'm looking for are folks I met during long, lazy summers at Aquamarine Cabana Club, where my mom worked the front desk for many years.

In April of 2000, I found a listing for Barb Archer, another "Aquamarine Alumni." In one of the E-mails we traded, she said that in many ways she felt closer to the kids from Aquamarine than she did to the kids from her high school graduating class. When Barb said that, I realized I felt much the same way, and when she said she might try to organize a reunion of our friends from the Cabana Club, my first thought was "what a GREAT idea!" My second thought was "pshew - what a lot of work - finding everyone, contacting them, and making the arrangements." Heck, just trying to remember folks from way back then could be a strain.

Well, if Barb is going to put together a reunion, the least I can do is host a web page about the Cabana Club. I'm not real sure how the page is going to shape up, but I think my goal is to provide a place where we can all reminisce about the great times we had back then, catch up on what we've all been doing since then, and be a place to make plans for getting together again.

Barb and I were on the swim team at Aquamarine from around 1965 to 1970, so I'm sure the initial focus of the page will be on the kids from that era. However, as hard as it may be for us to comprehend, the Cabana Club was there before and after our time in the sun, and there were folks who went to the Cabana Club and weren't on the swim team. Anyone and everyone who was a part of Aquamarine Cabana Club is welcome to participate in this web page.

Here are a few things I have in mind for this page:

  • An online message board forum where you can make posts for everyone to immediately see and respond to. The forum is already set up, and can be found at http://forums.delphiforums.com/aquabears/start. Please visit the forum and make a post. If you aren't already registered with Delphi, you'll need to complete a real short registration form.
  • A "History of the Cabana Club"
  • Short biographies of folks who care to share what they've been doing since they stopped going to the Cabana Club
  • A "Do You Remember" section, which could be a one line "Do you remember playing Euchre in the guard house?" or a paragraph or two.
  • A "What happened to" section, with all our names and links to online biographies.
  • Pictures. I'd really like to include pictures of what we all looked like back then, and what we all look like now. If you have any pictures you can scan and send to me, I'll put them up. If you don't have the ability to scan, I'll be happy to scan them for you and then return them to you.
  • An off-line database of contact information. We all get enough junk mail and E-mail, and I don't want to add to it by posting address information on the internet. I can, however, see posting a list of everyone I have contact information for, and then sharing that information through E-mail.

Beyond that, I'm wide open to suggestions. If you have any ideas, comments or suggestions, I'd love to hear them. You can send me E-mail, call me, or send snail-mail. My contact information is at the bottom of the page. I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
